Job Description:

Built in the early part of the 20th century, the Lower East Side Houses are part of the New York Housing Authorities properties.

A good portion of the Lower East Side of Manhattan,  including the Lower East Side Houses, were inundated with flood waters as a result of Superstorm Sandy. The damage included electrical systems, boilers, and physical building damage.

The project entailed repair and replacement of damage items, such as boilers, electrical service, lighting, doors entries and damaged finishes, as well as facility and building code upgrades.  Flood prevention systems were designed to prevent damage from surface and subterranean water.  The perimeter of the complex was developed into a flood control mechanism. Critical areas of the building such as mechanical rooms, and elevators were waterproofed to protect against future flooding. A generator was also incorporated into the building upgrades, to provide emergency power for the tenants during lapses in electrical service. These repairs, upgrades and improvements will ensure that the building and its occupants can endure a future storm.
